Syllabus

Electrical Engineers: No resistance can drop our potential.

The undergraduate educational goal is to prepare graduates to work as electrical engineers for the broad range of opportunities available in industrial, commercial, academic and government organizations and to prepare graduates for continued learning experiences either in a formal graduate or professional program or in continuing education. Our alumni will be enabled to advance in their fields to supervisory and leadership positions in their chosen careers.

Specifically, three to seven years after graduation we expect our alumni to exhibit one or more of the following:

  • Graduating from a graduate or professional school degree program
  • Achieving success in a government, industrial, commercial, entrepreneurial or academic position as evidenced by continued employment and technical accomplishments
  • Progressing in chosen career as shown by promotion to a position of increased technical, supervisory or management responsibility

Message from HOD’s Desk

Welcome to the department of Electrical Engineering at Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu. Placements

Electrical Engineering branch is one of the oldest and core branches of Engineering. Many relatively new Engineering branches have originated from this branch, such as- Electronics and Communication Engineering, Control Engineering, Power Engineering etc.

Electrical Engineering is a core branch of Engineering. It is an evergreen branch. Qualified Electrical Engineers are always in demand, since most Industries use electricity and electric machines. Engineers are required by Industries for operational, maintenance and manufacturing purposes.

For graduates, job opportunities are available in Government as well as Private sector. Talking about Government sector jobs, the prime recruiters are- BHEL, Indian Railways, Indian Armed Forces, ONGC, Thermal Power Plants, Power Stations, State wise Electricity Boards, PWD Department etc. In the above mentioned Government organizations and departments, one may find job posts of-

  • Electrical Engineer
  • Assistant Electrical Engineer

Most private manufacturing units and industries makes use of electricity and machines. Thus, it is safe to say that directly or indirectly, a large proportion of industries hire Electrical Engineers! Starting salary depends on different factors such as- quality of College, marks scored in exams etc and may vary between 2-5 Lakh Rupees per year. Graduates may find following job posts in various industries-

  • Electrical Engineer
  • Assistant Electrical Engineer
  • Automation Engineer
  • Purchase and Quality Control Executive
  • Plant designing and planning officer

Graduates may also take up teaching job after completing M.Tech. program. They may also go for PhD program and venture into the Research and Development sector.

Laboratories
Electrical Engineering

Instrumentation & Control Lab

Instrumentation lab consists of experiments related to measurement like Owens bridge, Wheatstone bridge, Kelvin’s double bridge, RTD, thermocouple, thermistor, etc.
Control lab consists of experiments performed on control system like position controller.

Electrical Devices & Communication Lab

In Electrical Devices Lab experimental setups on which students of final year perform experiments related to topics studied in electric drives like speed control of D.C. motor, speed control of A.C. motor, etc.

This lab basically consists of computers on which various simulation softwares like Multisim, PSIM, Dapper, LabView and MATLAB have been installed. These softwares are being used by the students of second, third and final year students for lab as well as project work.

Basic Electrical Lab

It is common to all engineering students of first year to understand them about the basic concepts of generations of electricity, transmission and its distribution. In this lab students of first year perform experiments related to topics taught in theory like superposition theorem, nortons theorem, thevenin’s theorem, open circuit and short circuit test of single phase transformers, etc.
